Indian Radio Spectrum Deal with Defence Ministry Expected by Nov.

India's Communications Ministry says that it expects its negotiations with the Defence Ministry over plans to release radio spectrum in the cellular bands should be concluded by the end of November this year. This will release much needed capacity for the cellular operators who are already facing congestion in some parts of the country.

"The spectrum issue with the Ministry of Defence will be resolved by November end," Communications and IT Minister A Raja told The Economic Times on the sidelines of an event.

The Communications Ministry has been demanding release of 45 MHz of spectrum from Defence for further expansion of the sector.

A sub-committee has been set up to manage the release of the spectrum, which will be phased in regions as replacement secure landline services are made available.
