Movilnet Deploys 52 New Mob Base Stations Since Nationalization
Venezuelan mobile telephony operator Movilnet has deployed 52 new CDMA 1x base stations nationwide since the nationalization of the company last May, the company said in a statement.
Since May 22, when the government took control of the company, Movilnet has invested around US$12mn in its expansion program.
With these new base stations, Movilnet, the mobile unit of local incumbent fixed line operator Cantv, now has over 1,200 base stations across the country.
CDMA 1x serves as a base to offer 3G services.
Movilnet is looking to strengthen its presence in the south and central coastal regions.
In July, the company announced plans to add 2mn new mobile telephony lines in the country in the next 18 months.
Movilnet competes with Movistar, a unit of Spanish giant Telefonica, and Digitel.
