Moovera Offers WiFi Backhaul Over TD-CDMA Cellular
Moovera Networks and IPWireless have jointly announced that the Moovera family of Moovbox mobile broadband gateways will now fully support TD-CDMA from IPWireless as a high-speed wireless backhaul option. Moovera's line of Moovbox integrates Wi-Fi with cellular backhaul, enabling service providers and local authorities to cost-effectively provide in-vehicle Wi-Fi service on public transport.
"Traditionally Wi-Fi hotspots have required a wired connection such as DSL for backhaul," said Jim Baker, Moovera CEO and founder. "With a growing number of UMTS TD-CDMA networks in service around the world, the combination of our Moovbox Broadband Gateways and IPWireless TD-CDMA technology allows deployment of mobile hotspots with Wi-Fi access at multi-megabit speeds wherever there's wireless carrier network coverage."
Moovera and IPWireless are also targeting public safety applications in licensed frequencies to support first responders and transportation personnel with high-speed video and data capabilities.
"TD-CDMA offers very fast bi-directional communications in frequencies including 850-900MHz, 1900-2025 MHz, and 2500-2690 MHz, all of which are licensed bands better suited for mission-critical applications," continued Baker. "These frequencies offer good propagation, allowing IPWireless-enabled Moovbox deployments to be more robust in emergency situations." In addition to providing VPN-encrypted Wi-Fi access, Moovbox Gateways feature secure Ethernet connectivity for IP-based devices such as on-street and on-vehicle IP-CCTV systems and transport telematics.
The Moovbox M100 mobile gateway is a ruggedized access point and cellular router, offering multiple WAN radios for failover and featuring built-in GPS. Moovbox products also offer secure Ethernet for IP-CCTV, DVR and telematics equipment with remote in-bound access for device control.
