Some 87% of Argentine SMEs were using mobile communications services at the end of July 2007, up 3% compared to end-July 2006, according to a recent study by local telecoms consultancy Carrier y Asociados.
According to consultancy director Enrique Carrier, the year-on-year increase in mobile penetration in SMEs was not significant as mobile penetration in these organizations is already high.
The study stated that local SMEs had an average of 26 mobile telephony lines at the end of July, an increase of 30% compared to 20 mobile lines in July 2006.
Most surveyed companies said they are planning to add new mobile lines in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the analyst said the average spending in mobile telephony also experienced an increase of 30% in July 2007 compared to the same month last year. However, Carrier was not able to provide figures.
"Another interesting thing to point out is that SMEs in Argentina are demanding more mobile data services, mainly boosted by the use of email. This is also hiking demand for smartphones in the country," Carrier said.
According to the study, some 44% of SMEs using mobile data services had smartphone devices by end-July 2007 compared to 12% a year ago.
The study included companies with 5-250 employees.
