Alaska Communications Closing its TDMA Network

Published on:

Alaska Communications has announced the retirement of its TDMA Wireless phone service at the end of this month. After September 30, calls made from TDMA Wireless phones will be routed to the ACS call center for transition to the advanced CDMA network.

"We encourage all Acs customers to take action prior to September 30, and upgrade their Tdma Wireless phone to a CDMA capable device," said Anand Vadapalli, ACS senior vice president of network and IT.

"The CDMA network has a more expansive footprint than the TDMA network and the best voice coverage, as measured by blocks and drops. The CDMA network also supports the fastest mobile data speeds in the state. All these factors underscore ACS' ongoing focus on delivering the highest quality wireless service to Alaska's residents and visitors."
