Caribbean Resort Bans Mobile Phones from Beaches

A Caribbean holiday resort in St Vincent & The Grenadines has banned mobile phones from one of its beaches. Palm Island reported to be the first Caribbean getaway to ban mobile usage.

Rob Barrett, chief executive of Elite Resort Islands - owner of Palm Island - confirmed that guests will be prevented from using mobiles, laptops or PDAs within half a mile of Casarina beach.

He said: "There is nothing worse than lying back in your double hammock, sipping on your strawberry daiquiri and hearing the Motorola jingle in the background.

"We would love to encourage guests to adopt Caribbean time during their stay with us, switch off their mobiles and enjoy the sound of the lapping waves."
