Brazil Mobile Phone Ownership Rises To 108.5 Million In July
SAO PAULO -(Dow Jones)- The number of cellphones in circulation in Brazil totaled 108.5 million at the end of July, up 1.7% from May, according to figures released Wednesday by telecommunications regulator Anatel.
Brazilian mobile phone ownership was up 16.6% from July 2006. Net additions in the month were 1.9 million, growing on last year due to increased price offers from Brazil's leading mobile-phone operator Vivo Participacoes, which is introducing its GSM network, and Claro, the local unit of Mexico's America Movil.
