Brasil Telecom Axes Prices for Multimedia Messages by 50%
Brazil's third largest fixed line operator Brasil Telecom (BrT) has axed its prices for sending multimedia messages by 50%, the company said in a statement.
BrT slashed the cost of sending videos and images as well as SMS text messages to 0.25 reais (US$0.12) each from 0.50 reais until September 30.
Up until now, BrT's regular SMS text messages have cost 0.34 reais, the statement said.
BrT's promotion follows in the wake of a similar offer by Brazil's third largest mobile phone company Claro, which cut prices for SMS traffic by 20% to 0.30 reais on June 4.
Claro estimated its SMS traffic could rise by more than 20% as a result of the price cut, Claro's value added services director Marco Quatorze told BNamericas at the time.
