Qualcomm Top Lawyer Quits

Qualcomm has announced that Lou Lupin has resigned his position as executive vice president and general counsel. The company did not give a reason for the resignation.

His sudden resignation does however, come only a week after a US Judge awarded costs against Qualcomm in it's legal dispute with Broadcomm over video compression patents, stating that Qualcomm had engaged in "constant stonewalling, concealment and repeated misrepresentations" in the legal dispute.

Carol Lam, senior vice president and legal counsel, will serve as acting general counsel of Qualcomm while a nationwide executive search is conducted for a new general counsel.

Carol Lam joined Qualcomm in February 2007 as a senior member of the Company's legal team after having served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of California since 2002.

"Carol is highly regarded as a top prosecutor who has litigated complex cases with national impact," said Steve Altman, president of QUALCOMM. "With her experience and proven track record, I have full confidence that Carol and the senior members of our legal team will continue to manage our legal matters during this transitional period."
