Alcatel-Lucent Wins Mongolian GSM Contract
Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Mongolia's Mobicom to expand its GSM network and add IMS-ready NGN portfolio to the entire network. The project will be implemented in several phases with the first phase completed in Q2, 2007.
Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will provide Mobicom with products from its IMS-ready NGN portfolio, including softswitches and media gateways.
Alcatel-Lucent also will expand the operator's GSM/GPRS/EDGE network with additional base stations as well as the latest generation of Alcatel-Lucent's radio network controller platform, the 9130 Base Station Controller/Multi-BSC Fast Packet Server (BSC/MFS), which is designed to support the ever-increasing volume of voice and data traffic generated by customer demand.
Figures from the Mobile World analysts show that Mobicom ended Q1 '07 with an estimated 640,000 subscribers - giving them a market share of just under 70% in the market."
