Telecoms Authorities Meeting to Discuss Spectrum Interference

Mexico's deputy communications minister Rafael del Villar Alrich and the president of telecoms regulator Cofetel, Héctor Osuna, will meet with their US counterparts on Friday in Mexico City to discuss spectrum interference along their shared border, Cofetel said in a statement.

The meeting aims to establish new regulatory protocol for the use of the 800Mhz and 138-144Mhz bands, used for communication devices, as well the 700Mhz, used for television signals.

Mexican and US authorities meet each year to resolve specific interference issues, however, this meeting addresses the general policy surrounding spectrum use.

In February of this year authorities met for the 31st time to address 21 interference issues, six of them in Mexico and 15 in the US."
