Brazilian internet services provider Wideway has selected US WiMax networks maker Aperto Networks to provide it with base stations and equipment for a WiMax project in Brazil, Aperto said in a statement.
Wideway's WiMax deployment will take place in two phases. The initial phase will be a WiMax pilot in the third quarter of 2007 and then a nationwide rollout.
The pilot will be conducted in the 5.8GHz band and includes multi-sector PacketMax 5000 base stations, single-sector PacketMax 3000 base stations and PacketMax 100 subscriber units.
"Given the scope of this deployment we conducted rigorous testing among many competitors before choosing Aperto," Wideway's sales director Sergio Mantovani said.
"This will help us to test quickly and roll out our high-speed wireless network across the nation [Brazil]," Mantovani added.
Aperto would not reveal the value of the contract when contacted by BNamericas.
Based in California, Aperto serves more than 400 customers in 90 countries."
