Union Reaches Agreement with Telecom
Workers of Argentine telecoms operator Telecom Argentina that belong to Buenos Aires-based telecommunications union Foetra accepted on Saturday a salary increase proposed by the company, local newspaper La Nación reported.
The agreement stipulates a salary hike of 11% to take immediate effect while another 6% increase is scheduled for March 2008, the report stated.
Meanwhile, Foetra members that work for TEO's main rival Telefónica de Argentina failed to reach an agreement with the company and decided to continue with a strike on Monday.
Telecommunications unions were asking for a 25% wage increase and last month carried out three 48-hour strikes (June 12-13, 20-21 and 27-28) as well as one 72-hour strike on July 11-13 and a five-day strike on July 16-20.
Over the last few weeks telecommunications employees have been working to rule (doing the minimum legally required), which is affecting operations, long distance interconnection and customer support services."
