Alternet, TekVoice Merger to Be Concluded on or Before Aug 15"

The planned merger between Canadian network provider Alternet and US VoIP operator TekVoice is expected to be concluded on or before August 15, the former said in a statement.

According to Alternet, TekVoice is currently completing their audited financial statements.

Last March, both companies signed a letter of intent to merge their operations. The new company will be called Alternet Systems and focus on acquiring and developing wireless broadband networks in countries in Latin America and the Caribbean that have a lack of telecommunications services. The company plans to deliver voice, data and content services.

According to the statement, TekVoice has identified an opportunity to build a national wireless broadband/telecom network in a country in Central America.

Core services of the combined companies include Alternet Broadband, a high-speed internet service that uses Wi-Fi and WiMax technology, and Alternet Telecom, which includes fixed, mobile, local and long distance telephony services for the business, government and residential segments delivered over the company's wireless networks.

In addition, there is Alternet Education and Healthcare, which is an internet management software providing remote areas with internet-based education and healthcare software and content delivered over the company's wireless broadband networks."
