Mobile Music Downloads to Appear on Billboard Sales Charts
Groove Mobile has announced that it will start reporting global sales of mobile music downloads to Nielsen SoundScan. Effective July 10, Nielsen SoundScan, the sales source for the Billboard music charts, will include Groove's mobile music purchase data in reporting comprehensive sales of the world's key mass merchants and non-traditional outlets. The inclusion of Groove Mobile data will complement Nielsen SoundScan's reporting of the mobile marketplace and its impact on global music sales.
With this agreement, Groove Mobile will report sales of all music tracks to Nielsen SoundScan on a global basis in all the countries the company operates in and for any new deployments moving forward. This includes weekly music sales from its carrier business including Sprint in the U.S., 3 UK, Bell in Canada and also full track downloads from its recently announced off-portal service with Vodafone UK.
"We are excited to take this big step forward with Nielsen in complementing its sales data as a viable market indicator for the music industry around the globe," said Adam Sexton, Chief Marketing Officer, Groove Mobile. "This agreement has large scale implications for the music industry. Reporting all sales of artists' music, including downloads via mobile phones, more accurately defines the success of those who have gained significant traction with consumers via their wireless phones.""
