India to Sustain 6 Million-7 Million New User Adds Per Month

KOLKATA (Dow Jones) Indian telecom operators are likely to keep adding 6 million to 7 million new wireless subscribers every month in the medium term as they rush to rural areas to add more users the chairman of India's telecom regulator said Tuesday.
"We are working on the assumption that six million to seven million new customer additions is sustainable... This is the rate to reach our target of 500 million subscribers," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's Nripendra Misra said.
The Indian government aims to have 500 million telephone subscribers by 2010.
