Singapore's two smaller operators - M1 and Starhub have announced plans to share access to M1's mobile video platform, MeTV. Launched by M1 in January 2007 to offer its customers a medium to upload and share their video clips on the mobile platform, MeTV will now be made available by StarHub to its customers in early 3Q-2007.
This collaboration will increase content generation and expand the MeTV community as all video clips uploaded on MeTV by M1 and StarHub customers can be viewed and accessed by customers of both operators. A new MeTV feature that will result from the collaboration is a weekly 30-minute programme on StarHub's HubTV (Channel 26) where a selection of the best MeTV video clips posted will be shown.
Commenting on the joint service, Mr Neil Montefiore, Chief Executive Officer of M1, said: "The synergies and benefits that can be derived from this collaboration will greatly add to the viability of the MeTV service. Not only will customers benefit from an explosion of content choices, but the availability of the service to the enlarged customer base will generate a critical mass of shared interest and experience which could encourage even more usage and trial among users and their peers."
MeTV has attracted over 50,000 M1 customers since its launch, and video clip owners are paid S$0.05 every time their clips are downloaded by others. Customers have to earn S$10, the equivalent of 200 downloads, before they receive their payment."
