Cal-Comp Gets Indian CDMA Handset Order

The Taiwan based handset OEM, Cal-Comp is reported to have received a significant order from an unnamed Indian CDMA network operator. The company chairman Rock Hsu told Digitimes that the operator has increased an existing handset order to a potential 12 million units for the whole of 2007.

"Due to the fast-growing handset market in India, Cal-Comp also plans to set up a joint venture with the client to manufacture handsets in India, with the planned investment project likely to be carried out in the first half of 2008," Hsu also told the online newspaper.

The identity of the operator was not revealed, but logically it has to be Reliance Communications which is showing considerable subscriber growth at the moment."
