China Jan-May Telecom Industry Revenue Up 9.6% On Year

BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China's telecommunications industry revenue in the first five months of this year rose 9.6% from a year earlier to CNY288.68 (US$37.9) billion, the Ministry of Information Industry said Monday, as revenue growth in the sector continued to accelerate.

The latest figure follows January-April's revenue growth rate of 8.9%, which was in turn faster than the 8.4% rise in the first quarter and the 7.7% rise in the first two months of this year.

The number of mobile phone users in China, the world's largest market, totaled 494.6 million at the end of May, up from 487.43 million at the end of April, ministry data showed.

The number of fixed-line users in China totaled 372.21 million at the end of May, up slightly from 371.99 million at the end of April.
