Huawei Asia-Pacific Sales Doubled in 2006

Huawei has announced that its contract sales for Asia Pacific grew by more than 55 percent year-on-year to US$2 billion in 2006, up from US$1.29 billion from the previous year. The company expects Asia Pacific contract sales to reach US$2.4 billion in 2007. Huawei has established long-term partnerships with leading telecom operators in Asia-Pacific region and now has a presence in 17 countries across the region, with its products deployed in over 25 countries. Huawei's total number of staff in Asia Pacific stands at 2,800 of which 68 percent are local staff.

Huawei has also established a research and development (R&D) institute in Bangalore, India with over 1,100 local engineers.

"Huawei has always been committed to bringing world-class customer-focused products and services to the Asia-Pacific market," said Mr. Liu Jiangfeng, Vice president Asia Pacific, Huawei Technologies. "In both the fixed and wireless network fields the company will continue to work with top tier operators in the region with the aim of enriching peoples' lives through communication."

At CommunicAsia 2007, Huawei launched the U550 HSDPA handset that can double as a computer modem, two new high-end 3G handsets - the U120 and the U121 and two new data cards - the E870 and E960 that bring high performance Internet connection to people on the move."
