Macau Operator Prepares for 3G Launch

Macau's CTM says that the first phase of the 3G/WCDMA network provided by Ericsson has been completed and ready to handover to CTM, signifying that the Company is now in full gear to launch the new generation mobile telecommunication service to Macau residents this month, as scheduled.

Mr. Phil Green said, "The implementation of the first phase 3G network has established a solid foundation for the upcoming launch of CTM 3G service, symbolizing that we, at CTM, are now technically ready to launch the first phase of 3G service in Macau. He believed that CTM 3G service will bring Macau residents a unique experience in mobile telecommunication, as well as enabling the residents to enjoy the brand-new lifestyle created by the diversified 3G services."

After the launching of 3G service, CTM's existing mobile customers can enjoy this new service simply by registering but without the need to replace their SIM cards.

Over the next four years, CTM will invest over MOP400 (US$51) million for the enhancement of the 3G network infrastructure and continuous development of 3G services.

CTM is the largest operator in Macau having ended Q1 with some 306,000 subscribers, according to figures from The Mobile World. The operator has a market share of 45%."
