MTN Uganda Launches WiMax Service
MTN Uganda has launched a WiMAX based mobile broadband service. According to Erik van Veen, MTN's Chief Commercial Officer, "There is a substantial unmet need for very high-speed internet access. WiMAX is an advanced solution, designed to meet this need, and to do so in a low-cost, flexible way."
He added, "So many customers have a very unpleasant experience with their internet. It's too slow, too expensive or too unreliable. With MTN Broadband, customers get high speed at affordable rates and only pay for what you use."
Addressing the press, Phinda Ncala, Chief Information Technology Officer, said, "For some time now MTN has been investing in the development and deployment of WiMAX to enable us deliver MTN Broadband. We believe that MTN Broadband will help transform internet usage in Uganda. Enhanced speeds for data, as well as cost efficiencies for customers are just some of the benefits that are fuelling excitement and accelerated adoption of WiMAX. WiMAX no longer is just a promise, a potential. Now it's here, it's real.""
