Gemalto Wins 3G-Ready, Over-The-Air Platform Project From China Mobile"
Gemalto has announced today that its Chinese joint venture, SAIT (Shanghai Axalto IC Card Technology), has been selected to deploy a service delivery platform for Guangdong Mobile, the largest subsidiary of China Mobile. This project is the first 3G-ready SIM service platform to be deployed in China and is fully compatible with all foreseen 3G-network technologies, in particular the Chinese-developed TD-SCDMA technology.
Based on China Mobile's latest national standard for SIM technology, this new platform provides a highly secure and flexible way to manage SIM-based information portals on Guangdong Mobile SIM cards.
"Technology is constantly changing and improving. We have to keep up with the changing times. Preparing for 3G means considering all aspects of the service beyond the basic network needs," said Mr. Pan Zhiyong, deputy general manager of marketing & business department, China Mobile Group Guangdong. "It means considering how subscribers will use the services and how the technology can benefit them in their daily lives. This OTA platform is an important link for Guangdong subscribers and their services."
Tan Teck Lee, president, Gemalto North Asia added, "This new OTA platform is important because it links the lifestyle services to the subscribers through its ability to recommend and manage subscribers' preferred content."
