Telenor Sees NOK6.9B Rev Opportunity In Mobile Data
STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Norwegian telecommunications operator Telenor sees a potential 6.9 billion Norwegian kroner ($1.14 billion) annual revenue opportunity from a range of mobile data and content services in Scandinavia, said Telenor Senior Vice President Ric Brown at the company's capital markets day Friday.
The single largest revenue source is expected to be from connecting laptop computers to the Internet via primarily third-generation high-speed networks.
That service alone could contribute around NOK2.4 annually in Norway, Denmark and Sweden combined when 2 million customers start spending NOK100 per month.
Other services include mobile TV and providing communication between machines such as reading electricity meters.
"These services are all very close to our core communications business," Brown said.
In addition he said there are revenue opportunities around content such as exclusive access to football games and music. Combined these could contribute NOK1.5 billion in revenue annually.
All the mobile data and content opportunities will be possible to realize gradually over the next few years, Brown said but didn't provide detailed forecasts.
