Turkey Delays 3G License Tender

Turkey's telecoms regulator has delayed the country's planned 3G license tender until September. The tender was due to be carried out today. The Communications Ministry official gave no reason for the delay, but media reports cited the general elections, which have been brought forward to July from November amid a political crisis.

However, business daily Referans reported that there was limited interest in the licenses, citing Ertugrul Karacuha, Head of the Telecommunications Board.

Turkcell had said it would bid and has already sent out tender documents for 3G kit. Fellow incumbents, Vodafone and Avea have also said that they would participate in the tender."
