Mobile Phones to Be Jammed for President Bush Visit

A report in the local 7News newspaper is claiming that mobile phones within close vicinity of US President George Bush will be jammed during his visit to Sydney, Australia in September. Local papers report the sophisticated counter-terrorism measure will be used to prevent mobile phone detonated remote-control bombs.

A helicopter fitted with signal-jamming equipment will shadow the President's motorcade. It will block all mobile phone calls within an area the size of a football field.

While it is known that the Madrid bombs were detonated by using mobile phones as timers, and we have heard anecdotal evidence of remote detonation by mobile phone - we have not seen any proven example of this happening. If you are a terrorist, would you trust a potentially congested phone network to send your commands remotely?"
