Intelfon to Invest US$2.4mn in Network Expansion

El Salvadorian-based iDEN operator Intelfon plans to invest US$2.4mn in expanding geographical coverage in the north of the country, local daily La Prensa reported the company's executive director Rafael Salomé as saying.

The company expects to install 30 new base stations and expand its capacity to provide value added services. The company is also considering launching operations in neighboring Guatemala in 2008.

Salomé said Intelfon has been experiencing 20% monthly growth on average since its launch over a year and a half ago and that has led the company to consider expansion possibilities.

"The idea is that for 2008 we will have 150 base stations giving us greater coverage and enabling us to provide more benefits to the users," Salomé said."
