Movistar Launches International SMS

Argentine mobile operator Movistar Argentina has launched an international SMS, the company said in a statement.

The new service allows subscribers to send and receive SMS messages from users from some 450 operators in 180 countries worldwide with which Movistar has roaming agreements.

Movistar's clients currently send nearly 1.5bn SMS messages a month and this figure is expected to increase with the launch of the international service, company marketing director Darío Fainguersch said.

Movistar Argentina, a unit of Spanish giant Telefónica, has nearly 10.5mn users."
