Peru's transport and communications ministry MTC has decided to add an extra digit to mobile phone numbers for users registered in capital Lima and nearby port city Callao and two digits to numbers for users in the rest of the country, MTC said in a statement.
The bill was published in the official gazette El Peruano on Monday April 16 and is open for public comments for seven days, the statement read.
MTC said its decision was due to the increasing demand for mobile telephony lines. At end-2006, the number of mobile lines rose 57% compared to end-2005."
