Nokia Shows off US$310,000 Handset"

Nokia's luxury brand, Vertu has shown off a new handset which is plans to retail for an eye watering US$310,000. The "Cobra" handset was shown off at the Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show which is being held in Switzerland this week.

Vertu President Alberto Torres told Reuters that many of the company's younger customers were more interested in their mobile phones than their watches, unlike older clientele who show deep loyalty to luxury watchmakers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex or Cartier.

Vertu ships around 100,000 of its luxury handsets each year - with a starting price of US$4,300. The company expects sales to double this year.

Some 90,000 industry professionals from 100 countries are expected to visit the Baselworld show.
