Movistar, Porta Accept Suptel's Plan to Improve Service Quality"

Ecuadorian operators Movistar and Porta have accepted the conditions of a technical program laid out by telecoms regulator Suptel aimed at guaranteeing the quality of mobile telephony services, the watchdog said in a statement.

Porta, owned by Mexico's América Móvil, and Movistar, of Spain's Telefónica, said they agreed to permanently monitor the level of service quality and to have a series of contingency measures ready to implement in case technical failures occur.

The operators also agreed to ensure service quality does not deteriorate as the result of new promotions run by the operator that increase the traffic flow on networks.

Suptel said the operators had been informed they were obliged to agree to the terms before beginning the process of renegotiation of their concessions contracts that expire at the end of 2008."
