Dell Developing New Windows Mobile Based Smartphone

Taiwan's Quanta Computer is reported to be developing a Windows Mobile based smartphone for sale by Dell Computers. Local news publication, DigiTimes - citing industry sources - said that the new handset project is codenamed "Fly" and would probably contain a full QWERTY keyboard and support HSDPA connectivity, although the specifications have not been fixed at the moment.

Quanta told DigiTimes that it would not comment on any issue concerning individual clients.

Quanta is currently the largest OEM supplier for laptops to Dell Computer and already supplies PDAs and smartphones to Hewlett Packard (HP) and O2.

Motorola's former President of Mobile Devices recently jumped ship to head up the Global Consumer division at Dell Computers, which caused considerable speculation that Dell was looking to move into the handset market."
