Unicel to Recruit Up to 200 Direct Employees

Brazilian mobile phone company Unicel do Brasil Telecomunicações (Unicel) is recruiting between 100 and 200 direct employees to start operations in the São Paulo metropolitan area, tech news service Computerworld reported Unicel director José Roberto Melo da Silva as saying.

The mobile phone company also intends to outsource a large number of activities, according to Silva.

Unicel this week received final approval from telecoms regulator Anatel to become the city's fourth operator alongside Vivo, TIM and América Móvil's Claro.

Unicel estimates it can offer rates of up to 40% less than rival operators, news service Valor Online reported.

The company plans to utilize current operators' sites where it will install radio base stations.

Unicel is also in the final stage of negotiating for a new office in São Paulo, Silva said.

The official deadline for Unicel to start its GSM mobile operations is in 12 months, but the company plans to begin in "record time," Silva said.

This is likely to be in around four months, according to recent newspaper reports.

Unicel was the sole bidder for the license with an offer of 93.8mn reais (US$45mn)."
