Brazil's electronic goods association Abinee wants the government to hold auctions for 3G and WiMax licenses urgently, Abinee's new president Humberto Barbato told reporters at a conference in São Paulo.
"There are no alternative orders for telecoms equipment manufacturers," tech news service Computerworld reported Barbato as saying. Otherwise in "the coming months some units could be forced to stop."
Brazil's government would not need to invest heavily in 3G, but just establish the regulations, Barbato said.
Telecoms equipment suppliers represented by Abinee last month lobbied communications minister Hélio Costa to speed up the adoption of 3G technology."
