GTD Expects Regulatory Decision on MVNOs in Next 3mths
Chilean telecoms holding company GTD expects the regulator Subtel to rule on whether to allow mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) to enter the market in the next three months, local newspaper Estrategia quoted GTD president Juan Manuel Casanueva as saying.
GTD requested a concession to enter the Chilean mobile market as an MVNO during the middle of last year, but encountered strong opposition from the three mobile companies operating in the country.
Subtel has previously showed support for the entry of MVNOs into the market and promised to introduce new regulation allowing the rollout of these service during 1H07.
GTD expects to see continued revenue growth in 2007 of up to 15% over the US$108mn in 2006. One factor driving growth will likely be the company's triple play services from which it expects 70% of total sales to come in 2007.
Casanueva sees no reason why MVNOs should not be functioning in Chile considering the success they have had in the US and Europe."
