CellularOne Deploys Clarity Hosted PTT Service

Bermuda-based mobile operator CellularOne has signed an agreement with hosted telecoms services company Clarity Communication Systems to deploy hosted push-to-talk (PTT) service, the latter said in a statement.

The hosted solution allows CellularOne to deploy PTT using servers located at Clarity's US office over an IP network.

According to Clarity, the per subscriber payment model along with lower equipment costs slash the initial investment and time needed to deploy the service.

"Small and medium-sized carriers can't spend millions on licensing, infrastructure, building a new platform and training before earning the first dollar of payback," Clarity's VP of sales and marketing Tom Carter said.

The deployment comes on the heels of a rollout with Jamaican mobile operator MiPhone at the beginning of the month. Currently Clarity is focusing on the Caribbean and US markets, but company executives previously told BNamericas that an expansion to Latin America through a local partner is a future possibility.

Clarity is also looking to deploy other added value hosted services, such as GPS."
