Ukraine's UMC US GAAP Net Profit Up 15.8% to $375 Mln in 2006

MOSCOW, Mar 21 (Prime-Tass) -- Ukrainian mobile operator Ukrainian Mobile Communications, or UMC, a subsidiary of Russia's Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), increased net profit 15.8% on the year to US$375 million in 2006, as calculated under U.S. GAAP, MTS said Wednesday.

UMC's revenue rose 24% on the year to $1.49 billion last year, excluding revenue from other operators, which came to $10.6 million.

Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) rose 30.6% to $764 million, with the OIBDA margin at 51.3%.

Average revenue per user (ARPU) dropped to $7.3 in 2006 from $9.5 in 2005.

In October-December, the company's net profit rose 21.7% on the year to $100 million and revenue was up 18.6% to $400.4 million, excluding revenue from other operators of $2 million.

OIBDA jumped 28.7% on the year to $202 million in that period with the OIBDA margin at 50.4%.

UMC is the second biggest mobile operator in Ukraine with more than 20.5 million users. MTS holds 100% in UMC.
