MOSCOW, Mar 20 (Prime-Tass) -- Russia's largest mobile handset retailer Euroset has launched a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using SMARTS' network in the Samara Region, Euroset and mobile operator SMARTS said in joint press release Tuesday.
Euroset plans to expand its MVNO project to the Saratov and Ulyanovsk regions, as well as to two more regions within a month, Euroset and SMARTS said, adding that users may sign up to three tariff plans.
The virtual operator also offers a WAP portal, which allows subscribers to download content without a limit and pay only for the traffic.
MVNO has been working in a test mode since 2005. Russia?s IT and Telecommunications Ministry in December 2006 approved launching MVNO in commercial mode, Euroset and SMARTS said.
Euroset operates more than 5,200 outlets in 12 countries: Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
SMARTS, or Middle-Volga Interregional Association of Radio and Telecommunication Systems, operates a GSM-900/1800 standard network in 16 Russian regions. The company had 3.7 million users as of February 28, according to Advanced Communications & Media (AC&M).
