Azimuth Systems, a provider of Wi-Fi engineering test equipment, has announced that Symbian has selected it's AzCert Wi-Fi Certification Test Suite for Test Engine-enabled devices to help with performance, interoperability and certification testing of Symbian smartphones.
With IDC's forecast of cumulative global shipments of smartphones due to pass the one billion mark by 2011, Symbian OS represents one of the biggest commercial opportunities in mobile.
"By building support for the Test Engine approach into their products, Symbian is advancing the testing of converged handsets," said Jeff Abramowitz, vice president of marketing at Azimuth Systems. "Operators are pressing phone vendors for 'carrier-grade' Wi-Fi support, and Azimuth's automated test solutions enable smartphone vendors to deliver high performance Wi-Fi solutions efficiently."
In a related announcement last week, Azimuth also introduced the Fixed-Mobile Convergence Performance Test solution that leverages the Test Engine architecture for performance testing of Wi-Fi-enabled phones."
