Revenues from Argentina's telecommunications market are expected to grow 15% in 2007 compared to 19.1bn pesos (US$6.150bn) in 2006, according to a study by local consultancy Prince & Cooke.
According to Prince & Cooke, revenues were up 20% in 2006 compared to the previous year driven chiefly by the mobile telephony and internet segments.
"This year the expected growth will also come from these two segments," Prince & Cooke's associate manager Pablo Tedesco told BNamericas.
Mobile telephony revenues rose 35% in last year compared to 2005, with a total of 24mn lines at end-2006, while revenues from internet services increased 37% mainly due to the uptake of broadband subscriptions.
According to the study, the country ended 2006 with 1.6mn broadband subscribers, up 83% compared to 2005.
"I think there will be nearly 2.5mn subscribers by the end of this year, boosted by the increased sales of PCs in the country," Tedesco said.
Finally, he said the fixed line segment grew 4% last year and the forecast for this year is a similar level of growth."
