GSM to Drive LatAm Mobile Test Equipment Market to US$239mn in 2011
Revenues from test equipment sales for mobile networks in Latin America could reach US$239mn in 2011 compared to US$118mn in 2005 as more mobile carriers migrate their networks to GSM, according to a report compiled by US research company Frost & Sullivan.
The test equipment market, a niche market used to deploy technologies customized to meet local demands, is primarily being driven by GSM mobile migration in Latin America, Frost said.
"Since GSM technology involves lower costs in network deployment than its main competitor, CDMA, it has expanded briskly in Latin America," Frost analyst Marina Schreiner said in the report.
Other sources of equipment testing will likely come from deployments of WCDMA and WiMax."
