Telesystems Launches 1xEV-DO Technology in Ukraine

KIEV Feb 7 (Prime Tass) Ukrainian CDMA operator Ukrainian Telesystems has launched into commercial operations 1xEV DO technology in three Ukrainian cities the company's General Director Vitaly Vorozhbit told reporters Wednesday.
The CDMA 1xEV-DO technology was launched in Kiev, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa, he said.
The company has launched two tariff plans under the PEOPLEnet brand, he said.
The company plans to increase its investment in the CDMA 1xEV-DO network to USD130 million in 2007 from about $50 million in 2006, Vorozhbit said.
The company currently has 103 base stations in the three cities and 10 stations in Kharkiv, where the company is testing the network, he added.
Ukrainian Telesystems plans to install a total of 1,000 base stations by the end of 2008 to cover a geographic area where 80% of Ukrainian citizens reside, Vorozhbit said.
The operator's network uses equipment supplied by Chinese telecommunications equipment producer Huawei, Vorozhbit said, adding that Ukrainian Telesystems planned to sign another contract with an equipment supplier soon.
Ukrainian Telesystems has provided fixed-line services in Ukraine since 1996 and has a nationwide mobile license valid through 2016.
