Investments in Ukraine's Telecoms Up 15.7% on Year in 2006

KIEV, Jan 30 (Prime-Tass) -- Investments in Ukraine's telecommunications sector rose 15.7% on the year to 9 billion hryvnas in 2006, a department of Ukraine's Transport and Communications Ministry said in a press release obtained by Prime-Tass Tuesday.

About 66% of the total investments were made by domestic companies, the department said.

Operators launched over 617,000 fixed-line telephone lines in 2006, increasing fixed-line penetration in the country by one percentage point to 26% as of late 2006, the department said.

In 2005, investments in Ukraine?s telecommunications sector rose 34.5% on the year to 7.79 billion hryvnas.
