The mobile unit of Spain's Telefónica, Movistar, has consolidated its Central American operations in Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala under one management unit, local and international press reported.
The new structure aims to make better use of synergies between the Central American units and exchange employees and practices among the four countries to improve its handle on the markets.
Juan Antonio Abellán, the general manager of the Guatemalan unit, will head the regional office out of Panama.
Movistar's Panamanian unit has faced technical problems with its GSM network, resulting in sanctions levied by the country's telecoms regulator Asep."
