Cingular Wireless 4Q Net $782 Million Vs $204 Million
Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest mobile-phone carrier in terms of customers, said Wednesday fourth-quarter profit more than tripled to $782 million from $204 million a year ago, as it added a record 2.4 million net subscribers.
The carrier, which ended the quarter with 61 million customers, reported a 10.2% increase in revenue to $9.8 billion.
Average monthly revenue per subscriber rose from the year-earlier quarter and churn -- the percentage of customers who cancel service -- was flat.
Cingular is owned by AT&T and will soon adopt the brand name of its parent company.
