Zapp Accelerates 3G Rollout
In the process of winning its 3G licence, Zapp says that it committed to rolling out a 3G network covering most of Romania by the end of 2007. The first part of their commitment was concluded this week, when Telemobil paid before due date the first installment worth of US$10.5 million of the total cost of US$35 million of the 3G license.
Piermario Di Pietro, CEO of Telemobil said: "The licence award marked the beginning of our 3G business in Romania. Being the first mobile operator in Romania to be launched mobile broadband services, having a great network quality and riding on our competitive edge in technical and service innovations we are fully committed to constructing the next generation network". Over the next period, Zapp will work actively with mobile infrastructure, content and application providers and will invest generously in the development of network infrastructure and multi-media content.

The Mobile World subscriber database estimates that Zapp ended Q3 '06 with just under 440,000 subscribers, giving it a market share of 2.8%."
