Mobile phone services on the Moscow underground have been suspended following a warning of a possible terrorist attack from the country's security services. MTS, VimpelCom and Megafon conformed to the RIA Novosti news agency that the services had been suspended, but declined to explain why, although company representatives unofficially said the move is connected to a possible terrorist threat.
The network operators say that they plan to resume services in the underground railway from midnight tonight, if there are no additional recommendations from security authorities.
Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee, headed by Federal Security Service's (FSB) boss Nikolai Patrushev, said Tuesday the service had obtained a report from foreign sources of a possible terrorist plot to attack ground transport and one of the country's subway systems.
No indication was given as to which country issued the warning."
