Telecom Investments in Uzbekistan Up 69% on Year in 2006
TASHKENT, Jan 15 (Prime-Tass) -- Investments in the telecommunications sector in Uzbekistan rose 69% on the year to 179.6 billion som in 2006, Uzbekistan's Communications and IT Agency said in a report Monday.
Foreign companies' investments in the Uzbek telecom sector rose 39% on the year to U.S. $133.34 million, the agency said.
Telecom operators' revenues rose 55.6% on the year in 2006 to 622.55 billion som, the agency said.
The number of mobile service subscribers more than doubled in 2006 to 2.72 million users as of January 1, and the number of Internet users almost doubled in 2006 to 1.7 million, the agency said.
