HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- Hutchison Telecommunications International said Monday it has launched a nationwide second-generation mobile phone service in Vietnam.
Its Vietnam operation, HT Mobile, also has the capability to provide third-generation mobile services using the CDMA2000 standard. It has already launched a mobile broadband service in some key Vietnamese cities, company spokeswoman Mickey Shiu said.
HTIL, a telecom operator that focuses on emerging markets, is a unit of Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing's Hutchison Whampoa.
HTIL has second-generation mobile-phone operations in Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Israel, Macau, Sri Lanka and Ghana, and 3G operations in Israel and Hong Kong. It also has a fixed-line business in Hong Kong.
