3G Operator Licensed in Vietnam

EVN Telecom, a subsidiary of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) says that it has received permission from the Vietnamese government to deploy a 3G CDMA network in the 1900Mhz bands. The company has to also provide a report on the trial of its WiMAX service, and may receive a license for commercial operations shortly of the fixed-wireless service.

The trial of the WiMAX service began just over a year ago in selected cities.

The Mobile World estimates that Vietnam has some 14.4 million mobile phone subscribers, representing a population penetration rate of around 17%"
